Information Regarding Parent Sessions and Laptop Distribution
Friday, September 16, 2016

Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

This is an exciting time for students at The William J. Clark Middle School!  We are moving into a new era. Access to computers and increased use of computers in education will have a beneficial effect on student learning and achievement.  Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five is implementing a 1-to-1 laptop program for all students. This initiative will help engage students in critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. Teachers will be using computer technology for instruction, assignments, projects, research, and assessments.

Therefore, we are pleased to announce that beginning next week, all students will receive a laptop to be used in the classroom as well as at home for educational purposes.  They will also receive an AC power cord for charging and a laptop bag to carry the device.

In order for students to receive a laptop, a parent or guardian MUST be in attendance at your child’s grade level Parent Informational Sessions at our Parent Nights as listed below.  Laptops will be issued immediately following the presentation sessions.  Students MUST log into computers BEFORE leaving campus!

Parent Nights and Information Sessions

Grade Level                            Date                                                          Time

During these sessions, there will be presentations on Laptop Care, Internet Safety, and a Frequently Asked Questions session.  There will also be a form for parents and students to sign before receiving the laptops.

While there will be no initial cost to students to receive the laptops, parents and students must realize and accept responsibility for the care of and replacement cost if lost, stolen, or damaged.

We truly want our students to be able to compete locally and globally by utilizing the Digital Learning Device program offered by Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five.  We encourage all of our students to take advantage of this opportunity.

Sincerely,

Rodney C. Zimmerman
